2 Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2
Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior often spoke to large crowds and often spoke of parables below is one of those parables.
The Parable of the Sower
13 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake.2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore.3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” Matthew 13:1-10
Simply put a farmer went out to plant seeds in his field. Some seeds fell onto a path and the birds ate it up. Some seeds fell on rocky places where there was very little soil those seeds grew but withered and died because they had no root to keep them alive. Some seeds grew among the thorns and those thorns grew up and choked those seeds. Seeds that fell on good soil produced crops a hundred sixty or thirty times more than that what was planted. Whoever has ears let them hear and understand.
The seeds are a representation of the Word of God that Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior can save people from their sins so they may have a place in God’s kingdom. Sometimes God’s word fell onto paths only to be eaten by birds. Sometimes the Word of God fell onto people with rocky materialistic lives but soon the Word of God slipped away from them because of greed and the likes. Those people that heard the Word of God, the good soil, became good Christians and good people that followed the Word of God. In the scripture below the disciples ask this question to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” Matthew 13:10
This was Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior response
14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15 For this people’s heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.
Matthew 13:14-15
In the above scripture Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior tells the disciples of the prophesy of Isaiah that people will hear the Good News that Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior saves people from their sins but they will never understand that they will see the power of God’s healing and blessings but never perceiving or rather not believe. People’s hearts will be hard and calloused they will not believe their ears or their eyes if they did believe…
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.
The scripture below has been brought to my attention which prompted this blog.
38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. Matthew 13:38-41
This scripture actually explains the above parable. The world is the field and the good seed represents for the people of the kingdom or Christians. The weeds are the people of the evil one or satan. The harvest is the time when Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior returns to the world that crucified Him. The weeds are pulled up and burned Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior will send out angels to pull out the weed that causes sin and evil.
So in the days to come when Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior returns I would rather be part of the kingdom of God rather than a weed that is burned but that’s just me.
Remember:
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
