Consider This…

Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2

I am deep into the book of Exodus and just finished reading chapter 20. It is the chapter that tells of the Ten Commandments. These are the top Ten Commandments that God wants us to follow and as a point of trivia there are 613 commandments total in the bible some are do and some are don’t.  Below are the Ten Commandments from the book of Exodus.

Exodus 20:3-17

3 “You shall have no other gods before me.

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,

but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Six days you shall labor, and do all your work,

10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates.

11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

13 “You shall not murder.

14 “You shall not commit adultery.

15 “You shall not steal.

16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.”

The Ten Commandments are simple and easy to follow but I know people, including myself, that broke a commandment or two. This is why it is important to ask for forgiveness of our sins and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We humans often give in to temptation when we should not even when we know better. Below is a scripture that best describe how we should approach this issue of keeping God’s commandments.

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.  1 John 5:3

Simply put if we love God we will uphold his commandments and these commandments are not difficult to follow.

Remember:

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

God bless all that read this with His love, light, grace, mercy, and wisdom. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.

P.S. – I found this scripture in my daily reading and remembered how it tied in with last week’s blog.
29 “Do not hold back offerings from your granaries or your vats. “You must give me the firstborn of your sons.  Exodus 22:29
