I was recently handed a small booklet that was titled “Accept” which aroused my curiosity. It was handed to me by my girlfriend’s sister-in-law who is presently in alcoholics anonymous. After reading this small booklet and much deliberation I decided to blog about this…then the blog went down a different road.
I started with the word itself “accept” and here is that definition according to the Merriam Webster dictionary.
1 a : to receive (something offered) willingly
accept a gift
b : to be able or designed to take or hold (something applied or added)
a surface that will not accept ink
2 : to give admittance or approval to
accept her as one of the group
3 a : to endure without protest or reaction
accept poor living conditions
b : to regard as proper, normal, or inevitable
an idea that is widely accepted
c : to recognize as true : BELIEVE
refused to accept the explanation
4 a: to make a favorable response to
accept an offer
b : to agree to undertake (a responsibility)
accept a job
5 : to assume an obligation to pay
also : to take in payment
we don’t accept personal checks
6 of a deliberative body : to receive (a legislative report) officially
It seemed that the definition presented by Merriam Webster dictionary is applicable to the Christian faith as well as everyday occurrences. It is also where my blog changed paths. Let me show you what I mean.
1 a : to receive (something offered) willingly
(as in to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior )
accept a gift
(Accept the gift of eternal life when you repent your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior)
b : to be able or designed to take or hold (something applied or added)
a surface that will not accept ink
(For the most part Christians turn away from evil)
2 : to give admittance or approval to
(Christians come to realize that our God is a great and powerful God as well as a forgiving and loving God)
accept her as one of the group
(Becoming a Christian is very much like being part of a family that call each other brothers and sisters)
3 a : to endure without protest or reaction
(All Christian will endure the persecution that comes from non believers)
accept poor living conditions
(Most Christians are not rich and most are just making ends meet but God gives us all that we need)
b : to regard as proper, normal, or inevitable
(The Christian person always will consider that it it is normal to believe in Jesus Christ and proper to understand that He died for our sins. As for inevitable read the book of Revelation)
an idea that is widely accepted
(Millions of people all over the world believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and died for our sins)
c : to recognize as true : BELIEVE
(Millions of people all over the world believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and died for our sins and believe that to be true)
refused to accept the explanation
(Millions of people all over the world do not believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and died for our sins and believe that the Christian faith is a cult that is 2000 years old)
4 a: to make a favorable response to
(Christians get very excited to meet other Christians)
accept an offer
(God will bless us with the things we need)
b : to agree to undertake (a responsibility
(To follow all of God’s commandments, rules and regulations)
accept a job
(In the Christian journey we are asked to become like Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior)
5 : to assume an obligation to pay
(Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior commands Christians to love one and another just as Christ Jesus has loved us)
also : to take in payment
(I might be stretching this a little bit but pray for the forgiveness of your sins and others)
we don’t accept personal checks
(The church accepts personal checks Christians accept blessings and forgiveness)
6 of a deliberative body : to receive (a legislative report) officially
I had to think about this one. Here the deliberative body is our Heavenly Father God Almighty Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and the Holy Spirit. All good things for our life is found in the Holy Bible. Unlike Congress there is only truth and wisdom like Congress some people obey the commandments, decrees and regulations and some do not.
Remember and accept:
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
God bless all that read this with His love, light, grace, mercy, and wisdom. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Revelation 22:21
