2 Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2
Two weeks ago and with some discussion my dad gave permission to be admitted into hospice. Earlier in the year I tried to discuss this inevitable conclusion with my brothers and sisters and at the time they would nod their head and say “when the time comes”. The time arrived and they were shocked and bewildered of our decision that my dad and I had come to. After taking all the precautions and talking with family and having discussions about my dad’s health I have safely concluded that most of my family is drama queens. Admittedly I have the youngest brother who agreed and supported me and my dad in this decision.
A couple days later after our community prayer meeting I asked one of my most trusted spiritual advisors to talk with me in private. After some explanation of the events of the last 4 days he said with great wisdom, “Don’t forget to lean on Jesus.” My only reply was, “You are absolutely right.” Amongst the family drama I got lost and forgot to ask Christ Jesus for His guidance, wisdom, peace and strength.
Afterwards I did some searching and found these three scriptures that spoke to me the most.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1Peter 5:7
Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22
Short version: Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Repent your sins. Talk to Him in prayer and trust in Him to take care of you and all your problems. Accept no drama from anyone and always listen to your Christian brothers and sisters (unless of course they are toxic people who are Christians which do happen surprisingly enough).
